The Hunger Games - Civilian vehicles

Picture vehicle concept arts for the civilian cars of Panem.

Early during pre-production, the production designer and the art team aimed at establishing world building rules for all aspects of the Panem society, so that the final film felt lived in and relatable. One aspect to cover was the cars of the common people. The idea came from the necessity of building sturdy cars from cheap materials as people are still recovering from a recent war, with hints of an authoritarian government within the viual language.
Working on those was a real pleasure. Thanks to the entire Art Department for welcoming me in, major shoutout to Leif Heanzo, with whom our tasks often crossed paths, Hannah Brückmann and Thomas Möhring who took care of the environments, to Martin Sekiewicz for showing me the process of designing picture vehicles for sets, and to Uli Hanisch and Kai K. Koch for trusting me with it all.
